DESCRIPTION:
A Japanese cultural tradition originating in China, Tanabata, or the Star Festival, celebrates the meeting of the gods Orihime and Hikoboshi. Children take center stage, tying colorful ribbons adorned with poetry on bamboo branches throughout the nation. It takes place annually on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year. Depending upon which calendar, (the lunar calendar or the Gregorian calendar) is used, this event may be celebrated in August in more traditional communities.
